small town boy moves to a massive culture shock

Food takes us all on a journey of a lifetime; whether it's in your own kitchen, a restaurant down the street, or if you travel the globe. From pantry to plate, food has its ways of bringing back memories, both good and bad, and can bring lost friends and loved ones back together. Food makes us feel loved, connected if you will. Food is what unites us all. Food gives us history... Go cook something.

My name is Josh Douma (Juicy D) and I attend Johnson & Wales University to become a chef. Food is my life's passion; the smells, the sounds, the tastes...It's what drives me, even when I feel like I'm not going to make it. I come from a small town in SW Oklahoma: Indiahoma. When I say small, let's put it like this: We were ecstatic to see double painted lines put on our roads. Another example: my high school graduating class was <20 students. Our town has never seen a Wal-Mart (We have to go to the nearest city just to grocery shop), and if you stand on one side of the town, you can see the other side. I moved from here to Denver, CO for the sole purpose of JWU so I could better my life...Culture shock? Most definitely. I had never seen such diversity in my life!

I have the greatest friends in the world, I dont know what I'd do without them. My roommate, Cody, is a trip...something else, man. He's my better half. He completes me...(No, we are not together.) But he is like the skinny version of me...
Derek....OMG gay and fabulous! I love him soo much! He picks me up when I'm down, and vice versa. Derek is my number 1 gay, we're close knit and I feel like I've known him for years.
David -- just when I thought mexicans couldnt get gayer, he proved me wrong. My music buddy makes me happy, G-Lo can drop a beat so fast, and since I love music, David is awesome in my book!
Darlene -- my little Selena. So sensual, so sexy, so INNOCENT!! I love her smile, her laugh, her overrall personality, just cannot be replaced.
Sydnee, one word: VAGINADENTATA!! lmao I love this girl. She is crazy and cracks me up all day every day, even when im having a bad day.
and last but never least, Heather & Alice -- the cutest couple in the entire world. The first time I saw them both, I couldnt help but tear up...I love these two.

College life has been difficult, but no, partying and drinking every night DOES NOT HAPPEN!! What you see in the movies is complete fiction because if that many students behaved like that, every single campus in the US would be virtually empty. JWU is a dry campus, but believe, there's never a dull moment, ESPECIALLY with the aforementioned names... I'm loving every minute of college life, I just cant get enough, though I could live without the homework.. =]

Anyways, to sum this blog up, go get a bunch of friends and cook something.. I promise it will be a memory of a lifetime, especially if you claim you can't cook!
